How to stand out as a Christian

It’s easy when you think about it. What’s so hard about being a Christian? Nothing. At least in this school. This community. This country. Why, then, is it so difficult to stand out as a Christian? The only answer that seems logical is that no one knows where to start. What can be done to stand out as a Christian? Hopefully I can answer that question.

Okay, so you might have guessed. I’m a Christian. As I thought of what kind of blog to write, I began to think of what is important to me. The first thing that came to mind is that common, Sunday school answer of God, family, and then friends. So I chose the first one. A blog about the daily life of a Christian sounded like a good topic. However, I write this blog not as a description of my daily tasks but as a description of what a day in the life of a high school Christian could look like, for my own life is certainly not the ideal representation.

So what exactly does being a high school Christian mean? A Christian, simply put, is a person who believes that Jesus Christ was sent to the earth and died as a sacrifice for each person’s sins. Furthermore, a Christian has salvation because of God’s grace that is given to each person who has faith in Christ Jesus. Complicated, right? Being a “high school” Christian refers to someone who stands out as a Christian in his or her school.

Back to the original question: what can be done to stand out as a Christian in high school? A typical day in the life of a high school Christian should be noticeably different from the average high school student. But how? In the Bible, James says "…I will show you my faith by what I do.” (James 2:18 NLT). The best way to set an example is through small, ordinary actions. Through these small actions, a high school Christian is making a conscious effort to set a Christ-like example, thus standing out as a Christian.

A day in the life of a high school Christian is optimistically different in appearance to that of an ordinary high school student. It is also relatively easy to live as a Christian in this high school, and this country. I do not mean to criticize anyone’s beliefs by writing (or typing) this blog, that is not my intention. I do hope, however, that this blog can be an encouragement to whoever is reading this. A day in the life of a high school Christian involves many aspects, so future posts will further explore a day in the life of a high school Christian.
